Manchester United and Arsenal have been handed somewhat a boost following reports that one of their target would leave his club this summer transfer window.
Reports via The Sun claims Nicolas Pepe, who had been linked with move to Arsenal and Manchester United will reportedly leave French side Lille this summer.
Pepe has been on red hot form this season for the Ligue 1 giants and has 21 goals with 12 assists to his name for the French side across 37 Ligue 1 appearances this season.
According to report from The Sun, Pepe is value at £69m, with Manchester United handed seems to have an upper hand in the race to sign the attacker due to Arsenal’s low budget for this summer’s transfer window reportedly just at £40m.
Arsenal, however, summer transfer kitty could be boosted should the Europa League final against Chelsea later this month results be in their favour and secure Champions League football next season. But with Maurizio Sarri’s Chelsea side also looking to lift an European silverware since 2013, the Europa final will surely go down to the last minute.
Lille head-coach Christophe Galtier, who will leave the club at the of Ligue 1 season, confirmed the Senegal international will leave the club.
He told Canal+ as quoted by The Sun:
“Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today.
“He is a player of the highest level who will have a big decision to make on the choice of his next club.
“There will be a battle between the great European teams.”
“I hope that he will take good amount of time to think about it, do his research, like he did when he came here and when he decided to stay here [last summer], find the right project.”
Should Arsenal returns to Champions League football next season, the race for Pepe’s signature will go down to the very last day and it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be able to beat the Red Devils, who are no shy in terms of splashing fees, to the winger’s signing this summer.
