Leeds United looks to be the next destination for Athletic Bilbao midfielder Ander Iturraspe

According to the reports from AS , Athletico Bilbao midfielder Ander Iturraspe would be on his way to Leeds United at the end of this summer. As the Spaniard’s contract set to expire in June, he will be free to hold talks with the other clubs.

And the report states the Elland Road side which is currently maximizing their promotion chances could be the possible destination for the midfielder.  


A youth product of Bilbao, the Spaniard soon broke into the senior squad in 2008.

He has made 319 appearances for the club over the course of more than ten years.

The 30-year-old was part of the Spanish side which ended as runners-up in Copa del Rey on three occasions. He played a vital role in leading his side to Europa league 2011-2012 finals despite losing the game.

Iturraspe had a wonderful 2013-2014 season and eventually made into the La Liga team of the year.

He has represented Spain and Basque Country at the international level.

Possibilities of signing

This latest bit of LUFC news could be music to the fans. The Spanish club probably won’t revive interest in extending Ituraspe’s contract.

Marcelo Bielsa who has previously managed the Spaniard at Athletic and could influence him to join the Whites.

Moreover, having a vastly experienced midfielder alongside the fellow countryman Pablo Hernandez in the midfield, the Argentine manager can reinforce the strength of the team.

Leeds picked up an important win over the Bristol City at Ashton Gate and are trailing the table toppers Norwich City by two points.

They are set to face Reading in the Championship away fixture this Tuesday.
