Real Madrid vs Leganes : Can Pepineros follow Sociedad’s footsteps?

Real Madrid take one Leganes in today’s Copa del Rey round-16 first leg fixture. The Los Blancos are currently in one of the worst forms in 25 years but they will look to make things right against their La Liga counterparts.

Real Madrid were surprisingly defeated by Real Sociedad with a two-goal margin as it ended 2-0 on Sunday.

Considering the Los Blancos’ dwindling form, Mauricio Pellegrino’s men stand a great chance of pulling a shocking result at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday .

It should be recalled that the same side sent Madrid out of the competition at the stage last year, they will hope to draw inspiration from last season’s results in order to progress to the Semi-final round of the competition for the second time in a row.

Leganes presently occupy the 16th position in the League table and they are in another relegation battle just as it has been for them since 2016-17 season.

However, the Los Blancos shouldn’t joke with the Pepineros recent form — which have seen them lost just once in seven games — because that could be the beginning of another woeful performance later in the game.

Real Madrid Team News

Madrid and Germany international midfielder Toni Kroos is set to miss action for two weeks as result of the groin injury he suffered in their 2-0 defeat to Real Sociedad on Sunday.

He joins Marco Asensio , Marcos Llorente and Mariano Diaz in the recuperating room and he would be missed during the encounter.

New signing from Manchester City Brahim Diaz could be given his first game for the team on Wednesday. The 19-year-old is a very sharp and deadly youngster but the clash with Leganes may have come too soon for him.

Keylor Navas is likely to appear between the sticks as Solari will rest former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Isco is likely to start start tomorrow after being ignored by Solari in most of the League’s games played so far this season.

Federico Valverde, Dani Ceballos and young Brazilian Vinicius Junior are all set to be in Madrid’s lineup for Leganes’s clash.

Leganes Team News

Mauricio Pellegrino won’t have two of his players — Ezequiel Munoz and Michael Santos – available for selection ahead of tomorrow’s game due to injury.

The manager might give a rare start to Nabil El Zhar and Guido Carrillo while Javier Eraso is certain to lead the team’s attack.

Propable Line-up

Real Madrid

Leganes
Cuellar; Nyom, Bustinza, Omeruo, Siovas, Silva; Oscar Rodriguez, Eraso, Vesga; El Zhar, Carrillo

Betting Tips

Despite Real Madrid’s inconsistency so far this season, the Los Blancos are priced are 1/35 to on a straight win against Leganes who odds are set at 8/80 on a straight win. But if I were you, based on what we’ve seen so far from both teams, it would be better to wager your bet on either under 2.5 of a straight draw.
