Having missed out in the race to sign Luka Jovic, Chelsea could turn their search for a new striker towards Ajax superstar David Neres.
The Blues had been closely monitoring Jovic’s performance at Eintracht Frankfurt, but the 21-year-old Serbia striker should shortly finalise his Madrid move this summer.
According to reports, Chelsea remain hopeful of having their two-window FIFA transfer ban lifted while appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), so are pushing ahead with tentative recruitment plans.
If reports bear fruits, the Blues bosses are believed to favour a move for the Brazilian forward as Jovic now nears move to Madrid.
The likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool and Arsenal are also in the race for the £40million-rated Neres, who has been in red hot form this season.
Neres’ performance both in the Champions League and Ajax’ run to the Eredivisie title were very impressive to have attracted interest from top clubs across Europe with 10 goals in 42 appearances in Ajax’s brilliant run to the end of the season.
Chelsea is said to be in talk with Neres agent Giuliano Bertolucci and Kia Joorabchian, with the pair representing Blues defender David Luiz.
It remains to be seen whether Chelsea would be able to push forward in the race to sign Neres with so many of their on-loan stars in line to return to the club.
The likes of Christian Pulisic will join the club this summer, with the USA star’s arrival to Chelsea likely to be as a replacement to departing Eden Hazard this summer.
